Artist statement

The irresistible never-ending search for true love makes the world go round. Money, love and sex seduce mankind to lie, betray and even kill. Money breeds greed and envy and makes even those, who believe they live like modest saints, forget their morals. Love and sex make us blind and tempt even those who imagine that they have total control over their actions to abandon the last traces of restraint, when they become affected. Moralists preach that money doesn’t make us happy. But even they find it hard to explain why those, who don’t suffer the overwhelming temptations of plenty, are facing difficulty in finding happiness more easily.

I don’t want to waste my energy any longer in support of the ever-present choirs of false modesty. I admit to being intrigued by the seducing power of money, love and sex. I want to taste and enjoy the stunning experiences and joys that lie beyond hypocrisy.

With the Money & Love series Antonia Pia Gordon broaches the underlying subconscious driving forces of human action and interaction and focuses on the moral dilemma and paired motivations of money and love that not only co-exist but also represent some of life’s most vital interdependencies. Without love life itself does not exist in this world and without money life becomes a difficult problem to be mastered. Both money and love are generally assumed to be separate worlds. And yet both money and love exert an irresistible attraction, making it particularly difficult to take one without the other, a fact which Gordon examines and underlines with the Money & Love works on a journey through experience and reflection. continue reading …
