"Hello Virgin": A Journey into the Unknown

"Hello Virgin" by Antonia Pia Gordon is more than just a painting; it's an invitation to explore the uncharted territories of the soul. Part of the captivating Spheres series, inspired by the allure of the unknown, this artwork embodies the fusion of artistic expression and emotional depth.

Imagine standing before a canvas where acrylics dance with a spatula technique, bringing to life a mesmerizing sphere on a textured ivory base, delicately outlined in black. The dimensions, 170 x 230 cm (67 x 90 in), make it a commanding centerpiece, ready to transform any space into a gallery of thought and feeling.

Exhibited at prestigious locations like the Hotel De Paris in Monte Carlo and the Hotel Majestic in Cannes, "Hello Virgin" carries with it an air of sophistication and exclusivity. As Antonia Pia Gordon herself articulates, the Spheres series represents life's twists and turns, inviting viewers to delve deeper and discover hidden layers of meaning. The first coat of paint influences your initial impression, much like the moods that govern our perceptions.

Unveiling the Spheres Series

Gordon's Spheres series directs attention not only to the perfect form of the Euclidean circle and the fascination of the Archimedean sphere but also invites us on a perspective-based journey through life's phases and emotions. This perspective ultimately guides us to a bird's-eye view of soul-moving moments. Drawing inspiration from C.G. Jung, Gordon encourages viewers to embark on a path of self-discovery, seeking wholeness and connection to the anima mundi.

Artist statement

Circles are the perfection of form – spheres their equivalent in the 3-dimensional world of objects. In Psychology these two shapes are often referred to as the Symbols of the Soul.

Spheres represent the twists and turns, heights and depths, quiet and stormy moments of life – they are the maps of my life, the atlas of my soul. Phases of life and perception are governed by a general mood – similar to how the first fundamental coat of paint on the canvases of my vortices series influences your first impression of these paintings. Viewed from a distance the paintings of the Spheres and Vortices series present a mere cluster of lines, dots and planes – but when you move in closer and focus your attention on details you begin to discover that there is more there to see than what meets the eye at first glance.

Eventually I began to understand that the vortices affecting our lives are the grinding and polishing influence that offers our soul a chance to mature to peace and perfection. I reflected on this notion - in countless sessions of applying layers of different materials and paint to my canvases.

With her Spheres series Antonia Pia Gordon directs her attention not only to the perfect form of the Euclidean circle, to the fascination of the Archimedean sphere and to the fluid dynamics and friction and flow of the vortex but accompanies us on a perspective-based flight through different phases of life, through moods and emotions to a bird’s eye perspective of soul-moving moments. With her canvas and multimedia works and with a nod to C. G. Jung, Gordon draws her viewers into a journey of twists and turns and highlights and deepest points, thus offering an invitation to the development of individuation in discovery of the self, the circle, in a search for wholeness and the anima mundi. This series further develops Gordon’s search for the soul of the world, the unity of the conscious and unconscious and the search for essential patterns of life and is a witness to the freedom of infinity in the freely flowing strokes and the endless forms.continue reading …
